Project Description
Substation upgrades including electrical equipment replacement and additions at substations across Newfoundland.
Scope included the removal of existing switches (all types), structures, oil filled circuit breakers, transformer breakers, PT’S, CT’S, power transformers and protection & control circuitry.
Installation of new equipment and associated cabling as well as the construction of new protection and control buildings with all new control, remote access communication.
Project Challenges
While our company has experience in and around substations, we had not completed any large substation upgrade projects. In 2014, we prequalified and tendered for the upgrades at several substations for Newfoundland Power Inc., a valued customer for over two decades.
Our power line crew performed well on the project and all four substation upgrades were completed without incidents.
In 2015, we were successful in completing another three upgrades for Newfoundland Power Inc.
